Clear built-up grime and give the roof surface proper attention.
Roof washing helps remove accumulated dirt, organic build-up and surface grime while giving the roof a cleaner appearance and a better opportunity to inspect visible roof areas.
A cleaner roof is easier to look after.
Over time, roof surfaces can collect dirt, grime, moss and other organic build-up. A sensible roof-washing approach considers the roof's material, age and condition rather than treating every roof the same way.
Cleaning can improve the roof's appearance and remove material that hides parts of the surface. If the roof also has cracked tiles, worn pointing, damaged flashing or leaks, those issues should be assessed separately rather than covered up by cleaning alone.
Assess first. Clean appropriately. Check the roof again.
The exact method depends on the roof in front of us, but the work should start with condition rather than pressure alone.
- 1
Inspect
Look over accessible roof areas for visible wear, damaged tiles, ridge issues, flashing concerns and places where debris has collected.
- 2
Prepare
Consider roof material, age and condition, then select a suitable cleaning approach and protect surrounding areas as required.
- 3
Clean
Remove accumulated dirt and organic build-up from suitable roof surfaces, with attention to valleys and drainage paths.
- 4
Review
Once the surface is clearer, note visible maintenance or repair items that may need separate attention.
